About the batallion:
We have been objectively evaluated since 2004 by Cadet Command and the administration of PRHS.This has earned us the highest distinction each year, Honor Unit With Distinction. Our Bear Battalion has been continuously praised by faculty and staff for having the most respectful, supportive, and motivated cadets. We have been involved in thousands of hours of community service and school support, such as: beach cleanups, parking details, health screenings, Veteran's events all over the county, assisted living facilities, Honor Flight, Sailing and Yacht Club, MLK Parade, JCLC, Meals of Hope, St. Matthew's House, and the list goes on. Every year we strive to help the community more.

About
Chief Mcmillan joined the Bear Battalion of Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) at Palmetto Ridge High School in January of the year 2024. He is proud to take over such a fantastic program that Major John Sarnecky oversaw Since its beginning in 2004.As a retired Chief Warrant Officer Three(CW3), the cadets call him Chief. He is dedicated to becoming the best possible JROTC instructor and has committed to at least ten years of mentoring the Bear battalion

CW3(retired) Mcmillan served in numerous positions throughout his 23 years of Army Service, culminating as the Division Aviation Officer for 2nd Infantry Division in South Korea. Other duties included aviation mechanic, helicopter crew member, flight engineer instructor, maintenance test pilot instructor, technical supply officer, quality control officer and production control officer

About
First Sergeant Mills- Is from the great state of Ohio where he graduated high school in 1993 and then joined the U.S. Army Reserves as a motor transport operator. In 2004 1SG Mills went from being in the reserves to Active duty and his First duty station waist Fort Bending (Fort Moore) in Georgia. 1SG mills spent a total of 27 years in the U.S Army and has been deployed several times to Iraq and Afghanistan. After retiring in 2023 1SG Mills moved to Florida and became a JROTC Instructor first in lee county then here in Palmetto Ridge. Where he plays to bring his 27 years of Army experience to help improve every aspect of the Bear Battalion to include elevating the student leadership to run the Battalion into the future. He is also going to modernize the rifle marksmanship team to make sure that the team has every opportunity to compete and succeed
